Question:

A power plant operates on a regenerative vapor power cycle with one closed feed water heater. Steam enters the first turbine stage at 12 MPa, 520oC and expands to 1200 kPa, where some of the steam is extracted and diverted to a closed feed water heater. Condensate exiting the feed water heater as saturated liquid at 120 kPa passes through a trap into the condenser. The feed water exits the heater at 7 MPa with a temperature of 170oC. The condenser pressure is 12 kPa. If the mass flow rate into first stage of turbine is 300 kg/s and each turbine stage has an isentropic efficiency of 80%, determine
(a) The thermal efficiency (ηth) of the cycle and
(b) The net power developed
