Content Brings Life

Content Brings Life

On his 21st birthday last April 1st, Danny received a gift box from a longtime friend delivered to his doorstep. It was articulately decorated as if meant for a celebrity. The box was also wrapped

in a bluish ribbon with a fragrance similar to those of top notch fragrance brands. Danny was immediately filled with joy upon seeing this gift. Wasting no second more, he immediately began carefully removing the wrapper covering the box. Then he slowly opened the box with his heart pumping in suspense. “What?!!” He exclaimed in anguish as he look upon the empty space filling the inside of the box. There was a white piece of paper stuck at the bottom though. He immediately took it and read the note: “Happy April Fool’s day Danny!!!”

NO CONTENT – NO FUTURE

Though the above was a fictitious story, the lesson is clear: content brings life! Content is what drives most sites to success. Content makes your site visitors come back as often as they want as long as your site’s content is something they would like to see. In a similar fashion as the fictitious story above, if your site was beautifully designed, responsive to mobile viewports but falls short of good content, then chances are you might have at the minimum less visitors to your site. This puts your site’s future in jeopardy.

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

As a first step into having good content for your site, it pays off to know your audience. Why? Let’s look at the story below. Harry just launched a peanut butter product store in his neighborhood. People then got curious as to the new product. This product immediately became the talk of town. People started buying every day and the numbers of sales increased exponentially day after day. But one night, Harry run out of one particular ingredient and thought to himself that it will be much cheaper and practical to substitute another ingredient with the original one. The next day, business as usual. People start to come again. But instead of them leaving with all smiles, they left the store somewhat dissatisfied. It became more evident as day pass by that Harry’s sales had suffered a major blow. People don’t like his peanut butter anymore and he was left clueless as to what happened. What went wrong? Basically it’s the substitution of the ingredient with a less cheap one. It paid the high price of losing Harry’s long time customers. But how can he have possibly know? He could have enabled his customers from day one to know what they like about his product and what not. In this way he will have a good grasp of what attracts them and what he could do better. In the same way as the peanut butter product, knowing your site’s visitors is also a good way of attracting more visitors. Therefore your site’s content should be in consonance with what type of audience you have. If your site is all about basketball, as much as possible, you wouldn’t want to have content relating to tennis. You will surely want to have content related to basketball (e.g. NBA, FIBA Cup, NBA Drafts). Knowing your audience is a sure way of increasing your site’s presence to new visitors.
