Herzberg’s research was the first to propose the concept that addressing employee dissatisfaction would not automatically lead to increased employee satisfaction. Tackling the maintenance factors that prompt dissatisfaction would hopefully lead to less dissatisfaction, but since the issues that prompted employee satisfaction (motivators) were completely different, employees would not suddenly become completely satisfied with their work environment.
