Question

In Chapter 10 data were presented on the distance to school (X) and number of clubs joined (Y) for 10 high school students to which the Pearson’s correlation coefficient was applied. One of the students (David), who previously lived 10 miles from school, has now moved farther away. He is now 17 miles from school. Because of the apparent skewness created by this extreme value, Pearson’s r may give a distorted result. As an alternative, calculate Spearman’s rank-order correlation for the following data, and indicate whether it is significant.
