In response to reports of drug use and sales by employees at one of its auto plants, Ford enlisted the services of a security firm. Investigators from the firm posed as plant employees. They mingled with employees during the work day and socialized with them after working hours. They witnessed drug-related violations, both in the plant and outside at bars and restaurants. The investigation resulted in a number of terminations and criminal prosecutions. In one incident, an employee who was being terminated was physically escorted away from his work station, despite his objections that his arm was being hurt and that he wanted to call his attorney. Did this investigation and subsequent terminations violate any legal rights of the affected employees?
