Question

Lazear (2001) noted that when one simply compares the performance of students in small and large class sizes, there is little difference, despite the presumption (and experimental evidence) that smaller class sizes improve performance. He argued that one reason for the absence of an observed relationship between class size and student outcomes is that schools may put more disruptive children in smaller classes. How would this practice bias the estimated effect of class size on student outcomes?
