Many people are concerned about eating foods that have a high sodium content. They are also advised of the benefits of obtaining sufficient fiber in their diets. Do foods high in fiber tend to have more sodium? The following table was obtained by selecting 11 soups from a list published in Nutrition Action Healthletter. The soups were measured on the basis of both sodium content and fiber:
a. Rank the soups in ascending order on the basis of their sodium content and on their fiber content. Show your results in a table.
b. Compute the Spearman rank order correlation coefficient for the two sets of rankings.
c. Does higher sodium content accompany foods that are higher in fiber? Test the null hypothesis that there is no relationship between the fiber and sodium content of the soups versus the alternative, that there is a relationship between them. Use a = 0.05.
