re: week 3 discussion forum: agents of socialization
socialization is the method by which children and adults learn from one another. we begin learning during our earliest stages of life; and most people continue learning until cognitive or physical disabilities interfere with the learning process. social learning can be skills such as learning to tie our own shoes and dress our selves, to society acceptable moral and ethical values that are both acceptable and unacceptable within our society; for example, stealing property from someone is a crime and is punishable by a fine or jail time.

re: week 3 discussion forum: agents of socialization
socialization is what happens over the course of somebodies life that makes them evolve into the person that they are. socialization helps individuals learn about the physical, mental, and social skills they will need in order to survive and thrive with other humans. there are four primary factors that play into socialization. the first of these is family. family plays a key role, especially at an early age. families help form who a person is, and are good support for the individual. schooling, or education is the next factor. education vastly impacts who somebody is. learning new things often changes ones perspective of a given event of circumstance. peer groups are simply other individuals who share common goals, interests, and hobbies. mass media influences people to a large degree. people are very influenceable. social media, and all other types of media influence and form people for better or for worse.

re: week 3 discussion forum: agents of socialization
socialization is the lifelong process of social interaction through which individuals acquire a self-identity and the physical, mental, and social skills needed for survival in society. agents of socialization are the persons, groups, or institutions that tech us what we need to know in order to participate in society. the four agents are family, school, peer groups, and mass media. family transmits cultural and social values to us. they are the primary locus for the procreation and socialization of children. family is the most important agent because they provide emotional support. for example, in most cases family is the one things that's always going to be there for you in a time of need. school plays an enormous role in socialization in young people. schools teach specific knowledge, skills, self-images, beliefs, and values. theories suggest students have different experiences in school based on their social class. for example, if a student is very smart and maybe in the band they sometimes get classified as a "nerd". peer group is a group of people who are linked by common interests, equal social position, and similar age. different groups in schools can be considered as examples such as drama, book club, or agriculture. they all share similar interests. mass media is composed of a large-scale organizations that use print or electronic means to communicate with large numbers of people. the media has a huge impact on children and adults in todays world. examples would be television, facebook or internet in general, and radios.
