•this analysis exercise gives the student the opportunity to critique visual aids and develop visual aids which adhere to good design principles.

deliverables
•3 sample poor visuals with a critique of each.
•3 redeveloped visuals with an explanation of the improvements made.

activity details

perform the following tasks:
• step 1: find 3 examples of poor visual aids.
research online to find examples of 3 visual aids that are poorly designed. cut and paste those images into a word processor (like ms word).


• step 2: for each of the 3 poor examples, write a critique of why each is ineffective.
in the same document you created above, write a brief critique of each visual. highlight what is good, what is bad, and why the visual is ineffective.


• step 3: recreate each visual to make it more effective.
using a graphics program (like powerpoint or the drawing tools in ms word), recreate each visual.


• step 4: write a description of the improvements made to each visual.
cut and paste your recreated visuals from step 3 into a word processor document. below each visual, write a short paragraph summarizing the improvements made to each visual and why that adds to the visual's effectiveness.
