Some research has indicated that diet programs may be more effective when the dieter reports their weight loss progress publically to others. A consumer group organization would like to compare the average weight loss for those that ­report their progress to those that do not report. This group would also like to study the effectiveness of three different diets. Diet 1 focuses on reducing carbohydrate intake, Diet 2 ­focuses on controlling calorie intake and Diet 3 focuses on reducing fat intake. The following data represent the weight loss, in pounds, for individuals under each factor. These data can also be found in the Excel file diet reports. xlsx.
a. Using α = 0.05, is there a significant interaction between the type of diet and the reporting status of the individual?
b. Using a two way ANOVA and α = 0.05, does the reporting status have an effect on the weight loss experienced by the individual?
c. Using a two way ANOVA and α = 0.05, does the type of diet have an effect on the weight loss experienced by the individual?
d. If warranted, determine which diets have means that are significantly different using α = 0.05.
e. Construct an interaction plot for the reporting status and the type of diet.
