In Canada the regulation of the securities industry is provincial whereas in the US it is federal.
Question:
In Canada the regulation of the securities industry is provincial whereas in the US it is federal. Would we be better off with a federal securities regulator? The purpose of such regulations is to create a level playing field. This is done by controlling the use of insider trading. Is this an interference with the marketplace? Would it be better to reduce the control of the use and disclosure of such information and restrict control to fraud, market manipulation and misleading information?
