Suppose you posted a reward notice that read, “Reward: $50 for the return of my lost college class ring.” Suppose further that someone who did not know of the reward offer found your ring and returned it. Legally you would not have to pay the reward money to the person who found your ring because he or she did not know about your offer. However, would it be ethical not to pay the reward to the finder?
