Question:

A steel cylinder is filled with an ideal gas at 20°C and pressure of 8.0 times atmospheric pressure.

(a) The cylinder is submerged in a bath of boiling water and allowed to reach thermal equilibrium. Calculate the pressure inside the cylinder.

(b) Some gas is then allowed to escape so that the pressure returns to its original value, at which time it is resealed. Find what fraction of the original gas remains.

(c) If the cylinder is then allowed to cool to its original temperature, what would the pressure inside be?
