Manufactured by Wham-O since 1965, these toys have a “super” elastic property such that they bounce to 90% of the height from which they are dropped. A Super Ball of mass 100 g is dropped from a height of 2.0 m. How much kinetic energy is dissipated by the collision with the ground? A lump of clay of equal mass is dropped from a similar height and sticks to the ground without a bounce. Where did the kinetic energy go in the case of the clay? What about in the case of the Super Ball?
