Using information from the General Social Survey, examine the dispersion of the number of brothers and sisters of Americans (SIBS). Hint: Open the STATISTICS option within the FREQUENCIES procedure and check the range and standard deviation for selected variables. Remember to weight cases by WTSALL. For your information, SPSS uses N-1 rather than N when it calculates variance and standard deviation. This slight difference in computation will be explained in more detail in Chapter 6.
