Think about companies you admire or aspire to be similar to. Go to two or three websites and look at their missions. Is their mission primarily economic, social, or both? Next, see if you can find how each one reports its performance. If it is a public company, this can often be found by going to the “Investor” link on the Web page and looking at the annual report. For nonprofits or other companies this can often be found under the “About” link. What is each one reporting? Are these consistent with the mission? If not, why not? What do you think each company should report? Use this information to make a list of possible ways in which you can measure performance for your own venture and describe how this information will tell you whether you are achieving your mission.
