Question:

Recall Exercise 6.2.34 about comparing distances traveled by captive African and Asian elephants.

a. Put the data in the Multiple Means applet to create a null distribution and from it calculate a 2SD confidence interval for the difference in the times between the two groups of elephants.

b. Explain what your interval from part (a) means in context.

c. Based on your interval, is there strong evidence of a difference in distances between the two species of elephants? Explain how you know.

Data from Exercises 6.2.34

Researchers Holdgate et al. (2016) studied walking behavior of elephants in North American zoos to see whether there is a difference in average distance traveled by African and Asian elephants. They put GPS loggers on 33 African elephants and 23 Asian elephants and measured the distance (in kilometers) the elephants walked per day. The data file Elephants contains results that are consistent with what the researchers found.
