During the Covid–19 pandemic, some people wondered why biologists seemed unable to answer many questions about the virus, including why children rarely became seriously ill, why men were more likely than women to die from the virus, and why there was great uncertainty about whether some existing pharmaceuticals would be effective in treating the disease. Briefly discuss similarities and differences between the problem biologists faced in understanding the virus that causes COVID–19 and the problem economists face in predicting recessions.
