Delta One is an integrated technology company with activities in the fields of industry, energy, and healthcare. The Delta One software division was started in 2009. It is a new division of Delta One. The R&D (research and development) division of Delta One is in seven places across the world with three developing teams in Chennai, in eastern India. The main objective of this division is to support the systems product with software. Hence, this division works only in the research and development area so that they can develop the best software to support their products without outsourcing. The division has 400 employees, and there are multiple teams that operate on a project basis. Delta One has major competitors including IBM, Honeywell, and Accenture. They are interested in keeping their workforce motivated and engaged. This is a business imperative; it is estimated that turnover in the Asian job market is high due to available job opportunities. The average yearly turnover in India for software developers ranges between 20% and 40%. Delta One conducted a study of what motivates their employees to develop recommendations for implementing new programs. Examples are providing funds for team outings to build morale and an online counseling program. They also send high performers to international conferences to meet colleagues from around the world and provide tuition reimbursement. But they wondered about the extent to which these programs translated into higher motivation. They also wondered what other programs would motivate their talented workforce. Employees were surveyed regarding the importance of motivational programs at the firm. The results suggested that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation mattered.....
