Measure the force (F) of your motivation to get a high grade in organizational behaviour:
What are your V values? Identify the range of outcomes from working hard for this subject. Rate the value of each of these to you, as 1 (positive), 0 (ambivalent) or
−1 (negative).
What are your I values? For each outcome, estimate the subjective probability of that occurring (you could get a high grade, you could ruin your social life).
What is your E value? Estimate the subjective probability that high effort will produce a high grade in this subject. This probability will be between 0 (little or no chance) and 1 (certainty of high grade).
Sum the calculation across all your outcomes, and compare your score with colleagues.
If the theory is correct, those with higher F scores are more highly motivated to get a good grade for the organizational behaviour course.
Consider the process through which you have just worked. To what extent is this a realistic picture of the cognitive decision-making process that we undertake when deciding on aspects of our behaviour?
