The ball in Figure P11.14 is attached to a vertical rod by two strings of equal strength (able to support much more than one of these balls) and equal length. The strings are light and do not stretch. The rod begins to rotate with its rotational speed increasing slowly, causing the ball to revolve with slowly increasing speed.

(a) Which string breaks first?

(b) To justify your answer to part a, draw a free-body diagram for the ball, indicating all forces exerted on it and their relative magnitudes.
