Study 1
A remote site in a rural area was selected where a large body of water was located next to a vast stretch of sand dunes. After both the lake and the sand dunes had been exposed to full sunlight for 8 hours, air temperature readings, in degrees Celsius (◦C), were taken at the surface every 30 meters (m) across the water and sand, starting above the deepest part of the lake, and moving toward a point on the shoreline. The results are shown in Figure 1.
