Approximately half of all spontaneous mutations in Dro-sophilaare caused by transposable element insertions. In human beings, however, the accumulated evidence sug-gests that the vast majority of spontaneous mutations are notcaused by transposon insertions. Propose a hypothe-sis to explain this difference.
