Question:
In Uniting the Virtual Workforce (UVW) the authors assert that far from eliminating distance, technology in many ways has enabled greater distance to enter into our work and personal relationships (see full description). Hide Full Description
When we think of distance, we generally think of physical or geographic distance. In that respect, the readings on globalization and cultural differences are fairly commonplace in management literature. However, the nature of these interactions has changed...they have increased in frequency and speed of interaction.
Technology has also increased our ability to interact 'virtually' when physical distance is low. This can lead to a perception of distance not based on geographic separation, but on our preferences (or avoidance) for certain interactions.
