Abstract The purpose of this paper is to understand the issue of airport security and why it is important to both airport operators and nations at large It contains various matters such as funding forthe safety in airports the development of security programs access control measures the role of committees and many other aspects that are related to airport security There is also an analysis of the key factors that determine if an airport is secure or not Lastly there is a discussion on the real essence of security in airports and why it matters Airport Security Why It Is Important For a Nation Introduction Airport security plays a significant role not only in airports but countries around the world In most instances airports act as the first point of entry by foreigners into a country Since no one might be quite sure what the intention of every passenger is security at the airport can help to quell tensions and ensure the airports are more useful to the people The security of the nation as a whole is something that cannot just be underestimated Various countries have suffered the effects of terrorist attacks in recent years Most of these attacks mostly emanate from the airports It is evident to this end that airport security is of paramount importance and it has to be maintained for many years to come Most especially when terror attacks are rampant and its effect devastating without taking serious consideration to guarantee that airports are secured all time the terror cells will get to countries and destroy nations and their economies as destroying air transport is just but a matter of any country having a security lapse at the airports In this paper I will discuss the concept of safety in airports and why it is of great importance to all countries Moreover I will discuss how citizens too can play an active role in making sure that airports are kept secure always Overview The September 11 attacks in the United States are a good example of terrorist attacks that might occur as a result of not making sure that airports are secured all the time The said attacks were done against a country and its citizens Countermeasures against those kinds of attacks are deemed to be serious matters of national defense There is therefore no doubt that airports need to be secured in order to avoid future occurrences of these types of attacks Experts however argue that whenever national or international regulations require stringent security at the airports such kinds of measures ought to be developed in total consultation with airlines airport operators and the various segments of the aviation industry Airline operators and the airlines should offer the right supporting facilities that are needed by security service providers for in any case the successful attacks also destroy their business and again if they do not cooperate then it will make it easy for terrorists to attack a country or drug peddlers to use the airlines as a conduit for drugs The Role of a Nation It is the role of the government or state to safeguard elements of civil aviation against any acts of interference Through this the state will make sure that there is effective implementation of security procedures at airports The government has a significant role to play in order ensure that safety in airports is always as stringent as possible There is also the need for constant reviews of the threats that airports are exposed to in order to make the necessary adjustment The review process offers the right platform for analyzing and understanding the procedures and processes that need to be put in place in order to guarantee more security in the airports Of course security measures that were in place in the 1990s are diminishing in effectiveness currently and thus proper systems need to be implemented in the airports Hence a constant update and a regular review is of immense importance especially with the advent of technological development that lead to new and more sophisticated challenges facing the airport security and the aviation industry in general When implementing security measures at airports airport operators and government forces need to have the interests of the passengers at heart This comes in light of the fact that some security measures might be too combative such that they chase away passengers If that happens to be the case the economic viability of most airport processes tends to lower This in turn damages the quality services that are being offered to the members of public for whom the security procedures are intended Therefore security in the airports should be an allinclusive aspect in that all stakeholder interests must be brought to the fore Even if it is the passengers who are undergoing screening their rights should not be compromised As a result they need to be notified at any time that security checks are being conducted so that some of them do not feel like they are being offended Above all it is significantly important that such security measures are carried out in a humane way and that the affected parties are well briefed and informed of the importance of the process to both their safety and that of the entire nation Funding Of Airport Security In most countries around the world the funding for ...
