Is Turkle right that we don't know how to be comfortable being alone, and as a result we are always lonely? Slater's take on this distinction shifts from the question of whether this internet world is or is not the same as the "real/offline" world, by shifting the question to instead ask "why and when do participants choose to talk about 'cyberspaces' as if they are separate from other spheres of social action, and to what extent." Putting aside the possibility that someone might be outright lying about their identity online, how do we deal with the fact that the online version of you, is not quite the same as the version of you that walks around out in the "real world". How are we to understand the online you vs. the offline you. Which one is real and which one fake? Both real? Both fake? Or is talking about people in these terms, real and fake, less relevant in the internet age
