Question:
- 1) This was definitely greatly received by fans because this broadcasting was revolutionary and one of the first of its kind. Before radio broadcast, people would have to wait to hear about the results of sporting events until they read it in the newspaper, as there was no social media updates or television broadcasts at this time. Fans were probably very excited to be able to follow events such as this in real time.
2) This broadcast was definitely very unifying because it was one of the first of it's kind. There have been many "where where you when..." moments in American history, and back then the first radio broadcast of a sporting event was one of those moments. Everybody who had access to a radio was most likely listening to this match because it was so revolutionary.
3) There have been very revolutionizing moments in sports that have had a similar effect that this broadcast has. One moment I can think would be similar would be the Auburn kick return for a touchdown against Alabama in 2013. The major upset was broadcasted nationwide in 2013, and today is still one of those moments that people ask "where were you when this happened"
- How do you imagine this might have been received by fans at the time?
- Can you imagine how a simple radio broadcast might have united American fans around the match?
- Can you imagine a similar powerful national moment today?
