Current Situation
Women have been unfairly treated in the workplace for many decades, all across the globe. With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, steady jobs have been hard to find for men and women alike. The statistics around the male / female difference in salary have been in the centre of heated debates for years, and yet the problem is still as relevant it's ever been in our workplace. A study showed that in 2019, the average Canadian woman earned 76 cents per dollar that a man earned working the same job, It would also take a woman 15.2 months to earn what a man earns in the span of 12 months. On average, women are paid 7,200$ less than males in the same industry with the same educational and professional backgrounds (Canadian Women's Foundation, 2022).

Every statistic listed above only references the financial disadvantages that women in Canada face, not including the social and professional issues that follow from being a women in the workforce. On a daily basis, women have their ideas overshadowed by men, they are often seen as pushovers and 'soft' in the business world, they are often completely written off the job during the hiring process due to their gender. Along with having to put in triple the amount of work to be respected as their male counterparts, as of 2018, 38% of women experienced sexual harassment in the workplace, a truly disturbing statistic (Inspired E-Learning, 2021). In today's day and age women in the workplace still have to worry about being socially accepted, financially compensated for their work, and being sexually harassed by slimy male co-workers. The entire situation is unacceptable considering we are in the year 2022. Women in the workplace should only be focused on producing the best results possible, instead, our toxic society has decided to hand women with a plethora of other issues to prevent them from having an equal working experience with men.
Deeper Dive
Gender inequality is nothing new to our earth, however, the fact that it is still as relevant as it was 100 years ago is truly concerning. There is no doubt that we have made progress towards gender equality in the last 100 years. Women are now allowed to work, go to school, drive, and do anything that a man can do, as it should be. However, in today's world, there are still many nations that prevent women from educating themselves, pursuing a career, and dressing in whatever fashion that they would like. I find this truly saddening as there is plenty of potential that is being put to waste over selfish gender stereotypes, along with many women that will never be able to live life and discover who they really are. In my eyes, every single human is equal, regardless of gender, race, religion, colour, age, or whatever people use to try and divide us. We are all conceived and born in the same way, we are all made up of the same matter. I will never understand why society and selfish people try as hard as they do to break us apart, when we could all just exist as equals and strive towards something greater as a society.
