Question:
Recent studies over the past 30 years have shown a marked difference in mathematics scores between male and female students on MEAP tests/10th-grade level. The MEAP is the Michigan Educational Assessment Program, a standardized achievement test given to students throughout the state. Male students have verifiably scored at a success rate approximately 60% above that of females since the evaluation of scores began. Intervention programs to improve female scores have produced virtually no results at all. By the way, female students have outscored male students in virtually equal proportions on verbal and social science tests. Does this suggest that female high school students should be directed toward verbal and social sciences, given limited school resources and the likelihood that this trend will continue? Evaluate fully and objectively the above argument, which was posted recently in a national journal. (Hint: no Excel required here. Think about the type of data you have here.).Answer from a statistical perspective, not from a sociological or political perspective.
