A 42-year-old man presents to the Emergency Department with a 2 hour history of sudden
loss of vision in his left eye. He had a past history of hypertension but was otherwise well. A
sexual history reveals that he had has unprotected intercourse with multiple partners over the
preceding 2 years. He had not been screened for sexually transmitted infections for 5 years.
On fundoscopy, extensive haemorrhages and exudates were visible.
A rapid HIV test is positive
