Question:
A lot of times, individuals who are disabled are being taken care by others. For this reason, it would be important to help them focus on their health and help them build skills to further prevent disability. For example, in the primary prevention, its important to help train disabled persons on how they can interact with others as well as their children for better health for themselves. It would also be important to train adults as well as children what kind of disability they have so they are aware what kind of activities they can do or can not do. A lot of times, elders as well as children are placed in live in home cares where they are not treated nice in terms of how they should be taken care of. Giving awareness is very important. This idea falls under the individual and relationship in the socio-ecological model of prevention.
- Post one idea you have for secondary or tertiary prevention and explain where this idea falls on the socio-ecological model of prevention.
One idea that I would have for secondary or tertiary prevention would be to teach people with disabilities on how to take care their health by increasing awareness on physical health as well as physical trainings. This would be through exercise or teaching them in terms of presentations to increase knowledge of the importance of health. This training would increase better movements and would decrease social isolation in which the individual would not be at risk to hurt or injure themselves. These fall under individualas well as social on the socio-ecological model.
