Question:
A manufacturing business finds that on average 50 people per week (assume a 5 day work week) apply for shop-floor employment through their web-site with the company. All applications are initially reviewed by any one of 12 associates to determine if applicants are qualified for employment which takes, on average, .2 days per application. Upon initial review, 20% are rejected and discarded from employment consideration.
The remaining 80% of applications are forwarded to the department supervisor. The average time for the department supervisor to review an application and notify the HR manager of a reject or accept decision is .1 days each. On average, the department supervisor rejects 20% of the applications. After the supervisors’ decision, 10 HR professionals conduct a background check and reference verification for all remaining applications which takes, on average, 3 days per application.
After the completion of the background check and reference verification, 6.5% of applications are rejected (round down to nearest whole number) before being sent to 2 HR managers for application final approval to set up on-site interviews which take .5 days per application. In addition, after the 6.5% applications (round down to nearest whole number) are rejected from the background check, on average, an additional 5 candidates withdraw their applications for employment consideration before they reach the HR manager for final approval.
