A pump-motor system is used to transfer water (p = 62.4 lbm/ft³ & μ =6.72x10+ lbm/ft.sec) at a steady rate of 4500 lbm/min from a reservoir to a tank located at an elevation of 110 ft., measured vertically between the respective water surfaces in the reservoir and tank. The transfer is made using a 450 ft long commercial steel pipe with a uniform inside diameter of 7.5 inches. Both the inlet and outlet of the pipe have sharp edges. Between the reservoir and the tank, the pipe includes two 90° smooth threaded bends, two 45º threaded elbows and six threaded unions. The kinetic energy correction factor (a) is 1.05 (constant). If both the pump and the motor operate at an efficiency of 85%, calculate the electric power required to run the motor. Use Churchill Equation for determining the friction factor, if the flow is turbulent. Note: Provide a schematic diagram (sketch) of the problem configuration (if applicable). Every numerical calculation must be preceded by the appropriate equation. Do not forget units & dimensions during your calculations.
