A residential wiring circuit is shown in the figure. In thismodel, the resistor R3 is used to model a 250 V appliance(such as an electric range), and the resistors R1 andR2 are used to model 125 V appliances (such as a lamp,toaster, and iron). The branches carrying I1 andI2 are modeling what electricians refer to as thehot conductors in the circuit, and the branch carryingIn is modeling the neutral conductor.
