Question:
A solid dielectric spacer is poorly embedded in a 10mm spaced parallel electrode gap which is to be stressed at 26kV p under standard atmospheric conditions (discharge inception=3.0kV/mm). Due to poor workmanship there exists a 100 µm free air space between the upper electrode and the solid spacer. Do you think there will be any discharge activity in this micro air-gap? If yes, then what will be its consequences?
