Question:
A steam boiler consists of an economizer, an evaporator, a superheater and an air preheater.
The following data were obtained during a boiler test;
Boiler rating: 10 kg steam /1 kg fuel
Fuel heating value: 40000 KJ/kg
Ratio of air to fuel: 20/1
Mean heat capacity of the flue gases: 1.03 KJ/kg.k
Steam condition at boiler exit: 30 bar, 400 o
Feedwater temperature at the economizer inlet: 30 o
Air temperatures at inlet and outlet of air preheater: 20, 120 o
Neglecting the losses, find the amount of heat gained in each of the boiler sections; overall boiler thermal efficiency; and the flue gases temperatures at the furnace aperture and at the chimney entrance.
