Question:
Alternative workforces are a flexible way to buy talent. However, flexibility is also a growing consideration in the jobs of full-time employees. Historically, when an employee spent their entire career with a single company, and when technological advances occurred at a slower pace, job descriptions and modalities for work were more stable. Now it is not uncommon for employees to move jobs multiple times in their career, for organizations to more frequently reorganize how work is done, and for there to be greater degrees of choice in the modality for the work (e.g. distributed or hybrid work arrangements). How do we meet this new environment?
The following might help you to formulate your postings in this discussion.
- Discuss opportunities and limitations on flexibility in job design.
- Give one example of job design for an industry or profession of interest to you, using your own experiences if you like. Discuss flexibility in job design and modality for work for this example.
- Compare and contrast the use of competencies and KSAOs (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics).
- What limits, if any, exist?
