Question:
Answer the following to show what you LEARNED:
As we see in this chapter, a lot of classroom management starts DAY 1. Even for those of you more interested in becoming an SLP or school counselor or something else versus "classroom teacher," a lot of the information in this chapter still applies. So:
WATCH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUiWFntut00Links to an external site.and think about your own "Day 1" experiences
Reflect: Connecting to what we learn in this chapter, what do we notice Mr. Gomez doing to start establishing his classroom culture and management style? Consider questions such as: How would you describe his management style (with reference to the styles presented in the chapter) and why? How does he start managing expectations (think of how he greets and interacts with students, sets up the classroom physical space, details you might notice posted on the walls, etc.). Anything else you notice?
What will YOU do from DAY 1 to establish YOUR classroom (or office or other) culture and management style? First remind the class what you want to do in the future, and then consider questions such as: What teaching style do you want to embrace? How will you enact this? How will you arrange and decorate the physical space? Seating arrangements (and, if applicable, assigned seats)? How will you greet students? What information and activities will you have on that first day within the first hour? What are (or will be) some of your policies/expectations (and what is open for discussion/negotiation versus "non-negotiable")? How will you communicate/remind students of these expectations? Most importantly, WHY? What is YOUR goal or reasoning behind each of these decisions?

- . which case study did you pick?
- . what factors might be contributing to or influencing the student's behavior in this case?
- . is there more information you would want to gather/learn?
- . how do you think the instructor in this situation should respond? What advice would you give or what would YOU try? WHY? In your response, cite specific strategies from our text (Ch 12 and anything relevant from other chapters, as well!) and WHY you would recommend/try these.
