Applications where either resonance is used or resonance has to be accounted for in the design are as follows:

1-AC circuit oscillations at a constant frequency is employed by the phenomenon of the resonance it is similar to the pendulum that is used t maintain constant oscillation speed.

2-It is widely used in filters to allow or restrict various frequencies or the frequency ranges. The various types of filter are low pass, high pass and band pass.

3-This phenomenon is used in tuner circuits for filter, or selecting single station frequency out of the multiple radio station frequencies.

4-Nuclear magnetic resonance is also an important phenomenon which has various advantages in the medical and the health care field such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

5-The resonance phenomenon is widely used in the sound waves for generating particular sound waves or nodes from the various musical instruments.

 

The Tacoma Narrow Bridge was designed by one of the greatest engineers of suspension during the 1940's and collapsed four months after it was built. The one reason for collapsing Tacoma Narrows Bridge is mechanical resonance. Resonance occurs when an object is vibrating at the same natural frequency as a second object or force. This action causes that second object into an oscillating motion. In the case of Tacoma, bridge wind provided an external periodic frequency that matched the natural structural frequency of the bridge and caused the bridge to vibrate uncontrollably. When the vibration reaches its elastic limit, it causes the bridge to break.
