As a healthcare leader or manager, most of us are charged with supervising employees. The literature suggests the importance of hiring and retaining employees with high levels of emotional intelligence. Consider and respond to the following questions from a leadership/management perspective.

• Have you seen a shift in the expectations, i.e., what consumers, and ultimately you, are looking for in your employees? Consider hospital staff, physicians, and managers when formulating your answer. Support your answer with literature or experiences.
• Where do you see the most obvious need for emotional intelligence right now? Multi-disciplinary teams, leadership, etc?
