Back in Unit 5 you were told the CEO of Kibby and Strand was considering an expansion of production capacity by leasing a building next door. Now he wants to investigate this option further because he is thinking of expanding product lines. Unfortunately, the building next door is no longer available so he is investigating two options: 1) build a new addition to the building for production and let receiving and shipping have the current production space; and 2) build a new building for all operations, but this is more costly. You are the Operations Manager and the CEO has tasked you to come up with a project plan for option 1. Your guidance is, "come up with a plan to shift production to the new addition with minimal impact to operations. We need to meet our contractual deadlines." You are told that you will be able to buy new machines for the addition as needed, but the current machines in the production department need to be moved to the new addition to make room for the expansion of receiving and shipping into the current space used by production. In other words, you can't throw away the existing machines in production. They have to be utilized in the new addition. Develop a project plan that will allow production to continue while the movement of machines and staff into the new addition is taking place. The plan needs to list assumptions, constraints, and a network diagram for the move. Identify the critical path in your plan.
