BIB 104 Israel's Life and Literature, OT2 Lancaster Bible College Views on the conquest of Canaan in the book of Joshua. The goal of this assignment is to understand and assess different scholarly views on the conquest of Canaan as reported in the book of Joshua. There are three parts to this assignment: 1) research the three listed views on the conquest of Canaan; 2) record your findings in chart form as illustrated below; 3) write an assessment of the three views. When you have finished, upload the completed assignment to the course website. Scholars in recent history have questioned the nature of the conquest of Canaan as reported in the book of Joshua for several reasons. Two key reasons arise from the findings of archaeology and the nature of the biblical records. Archaeologists have raised questions about the history of events based upon the evidence from cities like Jericho and Ai during the time of Joshua. Some scholars hold that Joshua and Judges present different views of the same conquest so have raised questions based upon the nature of the written accounts. Such questions have given rise to a number of views on the conquest of Canaan. Three key views are the direct assault or military conquest, the peaceful migration or infiltration model and the peasant revolt model. Research each of these positions with the help of the bibliography provided. Provide an explanation of the view including a description of the main points that make up each position and the way this view (or individuals who hold this view) view the biblical account. How do they view the accounts in the book of Joshua?
