CASE 10: HEALTH AND SAFETY OF EMPLOYEE Ma and Pa's is a mid-sized restaurant located in Syrause, New York. It employs 35 servers who are responsible for waiting tables. One server, George, has been a server there for three years and is considered one of he best. One morning, George comes in about an hour early to discuss a problem with his supervisor. Amy. Amy can see that George is very upset, actually on the verge of tears. He tells her that he has just seen his doctor and was informed that he is HIV positive. As yet, he has shown no overt symptoms of the disease appear. Amy offers her sympathy and tells George not to worry as far as his job is concerned. Fearful that horrible rumors about George condition will quickly spread throughout the restaurant, Amy decides to inform all restaurant personnel of the truth of the matter. She holds a staff meeting later that evening and conveys the facts about George condition, reminding the employees that there is really nothing to fear. After the meetings, a group of six other servers, who work the same shift as George, tell Amy that they refuse to work with George. They state that no one really knows how AIDS is spread, and they're not willing to take any chances. Amy informs them that there is nothing she can do about this situation, that George's rights are protected under the law. They respond by asking, "What about our rights?
