Cultural metacognition is a key dimension of cultural intelligence. Cultural metacognition refers to an individual's level of conscious cultural awareness and executive processing during cross-cultural interactions. Managers and leaders high in cultural metacognition are more likely to develop trusting relationships with people from different cultures. Conversely, managers lower in metacognitive cultural intelligence shared fewer new ideas with members of different cultures than they did with members of their own culture. A study of 37 multicultural teams showed that when team members had high cultural metacognition, fusion teamwork and creativity were more likely.
