Determine the maximum transverse design seismic moment in the pier columns for the following bridge, located on Highway 199 over Smith River near Crecent City California, located at Long. 41.80678°N, Lat. 124.08221°W. 5' Bridge Classification: Other Soil Profile Type II Column Reinforcing Fy-60 ksi Concrete strength - fc = 5,000 psi 5 Columns are 6 ft. diameter, with a 6½ ft. wide hammerhead pier cap configuration as shown. The pier column transitions to a single 6 diameter drilled shaft foundation at water line. The drilled shaft can be assumed to be fixed relative to the soil at a depth of 3 column diameters below the ground line. Bearings between the pier and the superstructures are fixed against longitudinal and transverse translation but free for rotation. Bearings at the abutments are free for translation in transverse and longitudinal directions and free for rotational movements. Additional information: 38' • • Superstructure weight = 10.7 kip/ft • Superstructure moment of inertia for transverse bending = 3100 ft+ Transverse direction Weight of bridge deck wearing surface and utilities = 2.5 kip/ft. Weight of Internal superstructure diaphragm at each pier and abutments = 140 kips (this is an additional point load at each pier) Do not include any live loads. 60 15 11.78 100 Water Level at 100 Yr Event Ground Line 60' Longitudinal direction Determine the maximum transverse design seismic moment in the pier columns for the following bridge, located on Highway 199 over Smith River near Crecent City California, located at Long. 41.80678°N, Lat. 124.08221°W. 5' Bridge Classification: Other Soil Profile Type II Column Reinforcing Fy-60 ksi Concrete strength - fc = 5,000 psi 5 Columns are 6 ft. diameter, with a 6½ ft. wide hammerhead pier cap configuration as shown.
