Starwood is targeting to open 50 hotels in India from 2008-2010. About half will be Alofts. Is this number realistic/appropriate? What number would you recommend and why? What should the brand breakdown be? (ie just Alofts, or other Starwood brands as well) Why? Discuss rate price points/positioning in the marketplace.
Should the hotels be owned/managed by Starwood or franchised? Why? What are the key considerations?
The case mentions that domestic hoteliers are upgrading many 3-4 star properties to 5, presumably in order to boost rates. Strategically, how would the Aloft brand fit in with this way of thinking?
