Question:
Figure Q3 shows the residential area with an urban flat area in Bangkok, Thailand . The runoff from this area will go directly to the monsoon drainage and flow to the stormwater facility downstream. The monsoon drain is a rectangular shape with 3 m depth and 4 m width, and been covered with the 200 mm concrete slab (used for sidewalk). This area is facing a flash flood during the heavy rainfall. As a civil engineer of the consultant (engineering fundamental -WK3 and with depth of analysis – WP3), you have been appointed to propose and design the drainage (which label as proposed drainage) within the residential area and connected to the monsoon drainage to overcome the flash flood problem, as shown in Figure Q3.
The criteria that you need should comply as follows:
• Propose/suggest the drainage that able to mitigate the flash flood with the flow rate of 5 m3/s.
• Drainage should be designed based on the composite roughness.
• Rectangular and triangular drainage are not implemented as the shape of the proposed drainage.
