For an SUV with a 6-cylinder engine: a) Create linear rpm vs frequency vs order chart and highlight fundamental order and its harmonics. (see slides 16-18 in Order Analysis_V2) b) From the dimensions of the car shown below, estimate (Lx, Ly, L) for the interior cavity; using your engineering judgement, to create a rectangular cavity. Then, based on this simple model, calculate the first longitudinal, transverse, and vertical interior cavity modal frequencies. On the graph from part (a), draw constant-frequency lines corresponding to these first 3 interior cavity resonances on the graph, (similar to graph in slide 18 of Lecture notes). c) Also, mark the steering column resonance (estimated) at 28Hz and seat fore-aft resonance 42Hz on the same graph (similar to b). d) Then, for the highway cruising speeds, corresponding to 2000-2500 rpm, shade (put small ellipses) on the graph where the engine crank rotational orders are crossing the resonances marked in (b) and (c). e) Write down your observations and highlight potential problems or concerns that may arise or needs to be watched during design and development.
