Question:
For this assignment, you'll focus on the planning stage of a communication task. Read the provided scenario. Then, based on your analysis of the audience and purpose for the message, answer the question thoughtfully and fully. Your responses will be evaluated for both information content (accurate, complete, strategic) and mechanics (grammar, spelling, word choice).
Scenario 1You own and operate a family-run pizzeria, Pizza Land, which was first established by your parents thirty years ago. 2You're proud to have survived some very difficult years, and you hope to be able to leave a successful business to your own children. 3This year, however, you are having trouble bringing the restaurant back to its former levels of success and 4a big part of the problem is the challenge of getting and keeping staff. 5Almost every month, you lose someone who moves on to another job.
6Your high staff turn-over costs thousands of dollars each year in recruitment and training, and 7it also affects your restaurant's reputation. 8Ever-changing staff does not support an image of a well-established local eatery and a great place to eat. 9Besides, you want to be seen as a good employer. 10You've decided to introduce an education incentive for all staff.
11Based on how long each employee has worked for you, they*are eligible to take courses at an approved post-secondary school. 12For every four months worked, they can take one course, which you will pay for (13on successful completion of the course). 14For example, someone who has worked four months is eligible for one free course. 15After another four months, they can take another free course. (*Note the use of the gender neutral "they" for singular third-person verbs.)
16You decide to redacta memo to all staffannouncing the new education incentive. 17The first step, of course, is to plan the message content based on the message's audience and purpose.
A message must go out to all staff letting them know about the new education incentive. You are NOT asked to write the message. Instead, consider audience and purpose, and answer the question below about message content:
QUESTION! -> Considering the intended communication purpose and the audience, what other information should you provide? Note at least one more thing that readers would want to hear or know, to ensure they are excited by the offer. Explain why you think this should be added to your message.
