For this course work, you must set up an agent-based model in NetLogo. The model consists of an artificial world made up of black and green patches. It is inhabited by agents (turtles) that move around and interact with the patches by changing the colour (state) of the patches from green to black and the other way around. This, in turn, depends on and affects the state of the agents (visible as their colour changing from white to orange and vice versa) and symbolises picking up and putting down green "chips" by the turtles. The world also contains up to two circulars, differently coloured objects of which the size and location can be varied. The structure of the environment (i.e., the distribution of chips and the size, location and colour of the circular objects) together with rules that dictate how the turtles interact with the patches are responsible for the emergence of patterns in the distribution of the chips. It is your task to report, analyse and explain the occurrence of these patterns by experimenting with the model. Besides assessing your knowledge about the AI taught in class and your ability to conduct basic research, this course work also hopes to inspire you to consider if, given the results, it is meaningful to attribute intelligence to the artificial beings created in the model. If so, how should this "artificial intelligence" be understood and in what ways could it be applied to enhance technology? For this course work, you must set up an agent-based model in NetLogo.
